About Philip
I was born in Northfield, Minnesota, spending my early childhood years in Washington D.C., St. Paul and Austin, Minnesota. I started 6th grade in Duluth, Minnesota where I completed public schooling. I'm one of five boys raised by a great mother and a swell father of Methodist cloth.
A creative lifestyle and artistic impulse - incitement to action arising from state of mind - comes from my upbringing in the late 1950's and the post modern 1960's toddling behind my father through galleries, art museums and art institutions.
At home, growing up with creative and spiritual rhythms, I was raised to be appreciative of people who feel the greatness of life.
My adult life has been blue collar labor, working mostly service jobs, including food service specialist, and fulfilling a Naval four-year contract - two years of Naval life in Catania Sicily (early 1980's).
Living close to Lake Superior for many years, Marsha and I enjoy many outdoor activities. Since these activities are pedestrian in nature - slow movement - the beauty and harshness of Northern Minnesota are taken in and blend well with painting. Painting since 1995 with watercolor, I spend much of my time painting. Marsha gives me the opportunity to accomplish domestic home work and make something of my essence (inward nature, true substance).
